Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

Every young person deserves an environment where they feel understood, safe and able to thrive. SEND refers to children and young people who need additional support to learn, communicate, regulate or take part in school life. This can include a wide range of needs, including cognition and learning, communication and interaction, social, emotional and mental health, and sensory and physical needs. Many of our learners are also neurodivergent, including those with autism, ADHD, dyslexia and other learning differences.
Our approach
SEND isn’t a separate part of our work, it forms the very core of what we do. Our approach is rooted in evidence-based practice, combining trauma-informed education, relational pedagogy and the Graduated Approach (Assess–Plan–Do–Review). We know that children learn best when they feel regulated, connected and believed in, so we prioritise wellbeing and emotional safety as the foundation for progress.

We adapt learning to the individual, not the other way around. Through personalised pathways, small-group learning, access to therapeutic provision, and structured regulation strategies (including sensory integration, Zones of Regulation and movement-based approaches), we give every student the best chance to succeed. We work in true partnership with families and professionals, ensuring that support is consistent, meaningful and responsive to need.

multi-agency working

We know that no single professional holds the full picture of a child’s needs. Many of our learners require holistic, wraparound support, so we work using a multi-agency approach that brings together the right expertise at the right time. We collaborate closely with SEND professionals, including Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, CAMHS practitioners, social workers and other specialist services. This coordinated approach ensures that strategies are consistent, assessed needs are met and progress is shared transparently. We see parents and carers as essential partners in this process and value their insight as experts in their child. Together, we create joined-up support plans that reduce barriers to learning, promote emotional regulation, and secure meaningful long-term outcomes for every learner.

Our values in action
Our approach to SEND reflects who we are. We build belonging through trusting relationships, compassion through understanding each learner’s story, respect through recognising every young person’s voice, identity and journey, integrity through doing what is right—not just what is easy—and perseverance through never giving up on a young person’s potential. Most of all, we believe in the joy that comes from growth, connection and feeling proud of who you are.
At Arise Education, we don’t just meet needs—we see people. And every day, we rise to help them thrive.
